Frequently asked questions

Does compression hurt quality?

No — this is a lossless pass. We don't re-encode images at lower resolution. If you need aggressive image-level compression for a 100 MB scan, you'll need a separate image-aware tool.

Why didn't my PDF shrink much?

If it was already optimised (most modern PDFs are) the gain is small. Image-heavy PDFs especially have less room — the bytes are mostly in JPEG/PNG streams that are already compressed.

Is the appearance identical?

Yes. Open the original and the compressed version side-by-side — pages should be pixel-identical.
